Preface

This volume of Advances in Organic Synthesis presents some recent exciting developments in synthetic organic chemistry. It covers a range of topics including important researches on novel approaches to the construction of complex organic compounds.

The book should prove to be a valuable resource for pharmaceutical scientists and postgraduate students seeking updated and critically important information in synthetic organic chemistry. The chapters are written by authorities in the field and are mainly focused on catalytic tandem reactions, synthetic applications of bifunctional Knölker type iron complexes, superelectrophilic activation processes, synthetic applications of chitosan, synthesis of N-containing heterocycles via hypervalent iodine(III)-mediated intramolecular oxidative cyclizations, and use of ionic liquids in formation of Morita Baylis-Hillman adducts.

I hope that the readers will find these reviews valuable and thought provoking so that they may trigger further research in the quest for new developments in the field.
